Powder Coating 101

What is Powder Coating?

Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as dry powder, i.e. a dry finishing process. Finely ground particles of pigment and resin are electro-statically charged and sprayed on to the surface to be coated. Electro-static attraction holds the powder to surface till the surface is cured in an oven under controlled high temperatures, which results in the particles melting and fusing to form a smooth solid coating.

Differentiating from Conventional Technology:

Powder coating, a relatively newer technology, has replaced liquid paint in many applications. Unlike liquid paint powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in liquid suspension form.
